What you can do

If you would like to make some changes in your chin rest and shoulder rest, and improve your playing in general, here are some options:

  1. Work on improving your equipment yourself using the information here and on the online textbook www.violinistinbalance.nl.  Using our "Equipment Criterion" from this site, you can better know what to ask from your equipment, which we hope will make it is easier to make clear decisions about what you need. 2. Make use of the equipment available, such as the Violinist in Balance designed Basic   Chin Rest Series produced by Willem Bouman & Zn. in the Hague.  With six heights, three positions and two chin rest cup sizes, these are a good option for players, or for teachers looking for something to fit their students! We will be putting a list of options online shortly, when you then can order them from www.willembouman.nl. You might consider combining the Basic Chin Rests with the Belvelin shoulder rest pads made by Eva Belvelin, (formerly Bogren) of Scandinavian Strings. www.evabelvelin.com We are also working on more options in partnership with producers, such as the research-designed Equilibrio Chin Rest Series (Wolf Products). See more on "Our Equipment" page.
  3. Choose to make use of the consultation services of Violinist in Balance in Utrecht, the Netherlands and let the team analyse your playing situation and develop a good equipment fit. We can design and build custom made equipment for you. Learn more about our consultation services...
